Ball

Live Included in CognitionVR
The Ball task is a cognitive training program using Virtual Reality. Participants must react to colorful balls moving toward them by hitting them. The difficulty of the task can be increased by changing options such as target colors, the number of balls appearing at once, the speed of the balls, and the range of their movement
Selective Attention, Processing Speed

Gameplay

The Task features a space filled with floating, colorful balls. Some of these balls move directly toward the participant. The participant must react to these visual stimuli by hitting and deflecting the balls as they are thrown at different speeds and intervals. As the task progresses, the difficulty increases by raising the ball speed, the number of simultaneous balls, the variety of colors, and the range of the throwing field.

Therapeutic purpose

The Ball Task is a Virtual Reality (VR)-based cognitive intervention designed to enhance executive functions. It targets and challenges key cognitive processes, including selective attention, sustained attention, information processing speed, decision-making latency, response inhibition, visual processing, and eye-hand coordination. This intervention is indicated as part of cognitive rehabilitation and empowerment programs for individuals presenting with:

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Specific Learning Disorders (sLD)

Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)

Perceptual-motor coordination deficits

Clinician guide

Prior to commencing the exercise, the therapist is required to select the difficulty level and configure the client’s orientation and height via the ‘Environment Setup’ section. Once the environmental adjustments are finalized, the exercise begins.

Recorded metrics

  1. Catch rate (caught / total throws)
  2. Response time and prediction quality
  3. Left- vs right-hand performance breakdown
  4. Survival time and total score
